an interview with paul banks, the "elusive" member of interpol, propaganda, bristol uk, dec 15/04 2am (note my still broken glasses):
unkown young man talking to paul: so what are secret machines like?
paul: they opened for us tonight...
uymttp: (puzzled look) I got this (holds up promo cd given out at the front of the venue)
paul: well they're not like anything else (sarcasm dripping from his voice) you should really see them sometime
ym:so who do you like now?
paul: death from above 1979...
me (butting in to conversation) oh, they're so great! I saw them in Toronto and they played pop explosion in halifax...
paul: (cutting me off) we've played lots in Toronto
me: yeah... for the number of times I've seen you, it's kind of ridiculous that I haven't met you yet (shakes my hand)
paul: what's your name?
me: kat, may I have a picture?
paul: I have to take it it (grabs camera, hold out arm, snaps twice)
me: it was a really good show tonight
paul: I don't know, the audience tonight seemed kind of (pause) lackadaisical
me: well audiences seem really different over here, they're very appreciative at the end, but just kind of stand there
paul: yeah
me: I was trying to incite something near the side
paul: (nods)
me: (knowing this conversation is going nowhere) well, good luck with the rest of the tour (clasping his hand in both of mine, I leave to order my 4th drink of the evening, in a dirty pint glass that I'm later to steal inadvertantly at 3pm when we're all kicked out onto the street... Paul ends up leaving with a shrieky blond woman & we later see them holding hands in a bus shelter in bristol's central square)
